At any rate, tonight I was thinking about the fact that Roger Federer has not won a grand slam tournament since the Australian Open in 2010 (January). The event that changed Tiger Woods' life for the worse was just two months prior to that in November of 2009 (wife + golf club = broken windshield). In the tennis world, two other guys are dominating the sport now: Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Golf, on the other hand, has had 15 different winners in the last 15 majors.Both Federer and Woods have won tournaments since their "slump" started, just not the big ones. I guess this next question for us, then, is which one has the better chance of hoisting the trophy at the end of a major tournament?
I'm for Tiger Woods on this one. But then again I was always with Tiger on this comparison. Roger is one of the greatest to ever play the game of tennis. And a class act as well.
ReplyDeleteBut I believe Tiger is the greatest to ever play golf. Nicklaus is the only comparable that's worthy of a debate, and Tiger isn't done. I believe he will win at least one more major, and he's already won more tournaments than Jack did playing through age 46.
So I'm going with TIGER ... but then again you already knew that!
Well, we were all wrong. Roger wins Wimbledon by soundly defeating Djokovic in the semi's and then polishes off the hometown favourite in the final! I never would have guessed it, but it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. -Ed.
